Protective styling for 4c natural hair

Hello readers,

A protective hairstyle is any hairstyle that keeps the ends of your hair safely tucked away. A hairstyle which requires very little to no daily upkeep and helps hair strands retain moisture.

Remember that your ends are the oldest and weakest  part of your hair, protective styling helps to protect and keep those ends healthy. In the end protective styling can help you to have a longer, healthier and more beautiful head of hair.

There are a wide variety of protective hairstyles, below are some examples.

Updos
An updo is any hair style that takes your loose kinky or curly hair out of your face, and away from your neck and back, pushing your hair upwards instead of letting your hair fall downwards. Examples of updos are pintails, buns, high puffs and much more.

Twist
Twist can be created using your natural hair or hair extensions. Twist are achieved by dividing the hair into several sections, twisting stands of hair, then twisting two or three twisted strands around one another. Examples of twist are flat twist, mini twist, jumbo twist, two strand twist, chunky twist, three strand twist and much more.

Braids
A braid also known as a plait is a complex pattern formed by three or more strands of hair. Examples of braids are, box braids, micro braids, dutch braids, bubble braids, Ghana braids and much more.

Wigs
A wig is a head covering made of human hair, animal hair or synthetic fiber, a wig protects your hair from the elements and in most cases is easy to put on and take off.

Weave
Weaves are made of human , animal or synthetic hair which can be clip in or sewed onto your hair for fullness or length. When done right weaves can be a very good protective hairstyle.

I am not saying that you should not enjoy your natural hair, that you should only wear protective styles. I believe that  there is a time for everything, you should enjoy having your hair out, doing your twist outs, braid outs, blowouts and wash n go. You should also remember to protect your ends, if you want healthy ends and good length. As for me I do protective styling about 60% of the time, the other 40% of the time I enjoy my hair. My number one go to protective hair styles are twist, I love my twists. Remember to choose whichever protective style that works for you, and not someone else.

Thank you.
